The Flint Area Reinvestment Office (FARO) is a project within the Prima Civitas Foundation that assists public, private, and nonprofit organizations with successfully attracting and utilizing federal and state funding for the Flint area.

Job Description:

The focus of this internship is communications with opportunities to work on initiatives including (but not limited to): economic development, health, education, and community development.

Hours: 16 – 24 hours per week

Duration: Jan – April 2013

Schedule and duration of internship is negotiable

Compensation: unpaid

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Students majoring in (but not limited to) Communications, Marketing, Economic or Community Development.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above preferred
  • Entrepreneurial and self-disciplined
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Believes that Flint is alive and changing
  • Letter detailing what the student hopes to gain from the internship
  • Resourcefulness in finding information and answers; highly motivated
  • Ability to prioritize/execute to achieve desired project goals with prudence and sense of urgency
  • Computer skills/proficiency required, including knowledge with Power Point

 

Responsibilities

  • Improve and update FARO’s website
  • Update communications related to all FARO projects, including Facebook and Twitter on a daily basis
  • Assist with FARO’s quarterly newsletter
  • Participate in local communication collaborative
  • Help create a communication strategy for numerous FARO-led initiatives
  • Assist with research and communication of funding opportunities for local organizations
  • Assist with event coordination
