Fisheries Management in the Great Lakes Basin
Flint River Ecology Study
This study collects fisheries, benthic macroinvertebrate, habitat, and water quality data downstream and upstream of a century-old dam on the Flint River in Flint, MI. The dam is scheduled to be removed in 2024 and we will continue to collect data to evaluate restoration success.
Watershed report cards
This research evaluates some rivers in urban landscapes to those in non-urban landscapes using metrics that affect and thus dictate in part the aquatic communities that live in them.
Great Lakes sea lamprey management
We have conducted multiple studies to evaluate ways to improve the management of invasive Great Lakes sea lamprey – from evaluating movements of tagged juveniles to using a model to determine effects of targeted stream treatments. Currently, we are working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Great Lakes Fishery Commission, and Michigan Department of Natural Resources to evaluate estimated sea lamprey population responses to proposed dam removals in some Great Lakes tributaries.
