Letter from the Director Winter 2026

Dr. Melissa Sreckovic

Dear Honors Program Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Friends,

As the Winter semester comes to a close, I find myself reflecting with a deep sense of pride and gratitude for our Honors community. This semester, more than ever, I have been struck by our students’ commitment to service, advocacy, and to one another.

Our students continue to demonstrate a strong dedication to giving back, engaging with the Flint community in meaningful, hands-on ways and consistently looking for opportunities to make a difference. Their passion for service has inspired an exciting new initiative within the Honors Program: a student grant opportunity that will provide funding for students to develop and implement their own community-based projects. I am thrilled to see the ideas that will emerge and the impact our students will continue to have both on campus and beyond.

Equally meaningful has been the way our students show up for each other. This semester, I have seen students share advice and encouragement as they prepare for study abroad experiences, support one another through challenging coursework, and come together to troubleshoot problems and exchange ideas. I have also been reminded that the Honors experience extends far beyond academics. Students have shown care, empathy, and support for one another through personal challenges, reinforcing the strength of this community. These moments, both big and small, reflect the heart of what the Honors Program is all about. It is not only a place of academic excellence, but a community rooted in collaboration, compassion, and mutual support.

To our graduating students, I am incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and the ways you have contributed to this community. To our continuing students, thank you for the energy, care, and leadership you bring to the program each day.

Wishing you all a restful and fulfilling summer. I look forward to reconnecting in the fall and continuing to build on the strong sense of community that makes the Honors Program so special.

Sincerely,
Melissa Sreckovic
Honors Program Director
