Anyone interested in health care, whether they already have a career in mind or are just beginning to explore their options, can learn about careers, educational pathways and ways to help pay for college during the Mott and UM-Flint Health Career Pathway Symposium on Sept. 23.
Mott Community College and the College of Health Sciences at UM-Flint are partnering to host the event from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Mott Community College Events Center, 1401 E. Court St. in Flint.
The program highlights careers and opportunities in health care. It is an opportunity for students to explore health careers, learn from current students and advisors, and research financial aid options, including scholarships. Participants will have the opportunity to talk with health care agencies and industry professionals. The partnership is also helping to strengthen the region’s health care workforce by giving students greater access to educational pathways and direct connections with faculty.
Ladder Up is an investment in the students who will help shape the future of health care in the region. “Our ability to meet the health care needs of our communities tomorrow depends on the opportunities we create for students today. Through Ladder Up and our partnership with Mott Community College, we are bringing students together with faculty who can help them see what is possible, understand the pathways to get there, and begin to envision themselves as the health professionals our region will need,” said Shan Parker, dean of the College of Health Sciences at UM-Flint. “Building that pipeline is not only about workforce development, it is about investing in the future health and strength of our community.”
For students considering a health career, the symposium brings several parts of the planning process together in one place. Attendees can explore career possibilities, learn how their education can move from one program or institution to the next, ask questions, and connect directly with people who can help them take the next step.
“Mott Community College and the University of Michigan Flint work together to ensure students gain awareness of all of the healthcare career pathway options available right here in Genesee County. The opportunity to ladder Community College coursework into Bachelor’s level Degrees saves a student money, time, and redundancy. Mott will have program representatives, advisors, admissions representatives and financial aid team members present at this event to help answer any questions and get students started on their healthcare journeys,” said Anar Asman, dean of Health and Human Services at Mott Community College.
The Mott and UM-Flint Health Career Pathway Symposium will take place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sept. 23 at the Mott Community College Events Center, 1401 E. Court St. in Flint.
