Welcome back to campus, Wolverines!
It is hard to believe that we are already into the fall semester. It feels like this summer flew by, and pretty soon, we are going to see the leaves changing, feel the temperature cooling and smell the scent of pumpkin spice in the air. (Or, if you are like me, the smell of pumpkin spice has been in the air since Biggby brought it back on August 21st.)
The fall semester also brings a sense of new possibilities. I get excited when the new semester rolls around for several reasons.
One thing I particularly love is the idea of having the chance to learn something I did not know before. Walking into a classroom or logging into Canvas for the first day opens a new door of endless possibilities. When I am physically in a classroom, I think about the wealth of knowledge the professor will soon pass on to me, and I also think about the classmates I am going to be interacting with all semester. Where are they from? Why did they sign up for this class in particular? Why did they choose to attend UM-Flint?
This semester, I will be taking 16 credits, comprised of 5 courses in total. Since I finished my requirements for my major in communication studies and my minor in general business last semester, I will be taking electives to fulfill the rest of my degree requirements. I chose two classes in Criminal Justice, a topic that has always interested me after watching reruns of 80s and 90s crime shows with my mom, such as Law & Order and Murder, She Wrote. I am taking one class in Crisis Response, a course that I am sure will be beneficial for me to learn about in preparation for my future career path in the communications field, as it will enable me to handle any crisis that may arise with efficiency. I am taking a Philosophy course, which will likely change my perspective on the world around me. Finally, I am taking a Spanish course, because I have always loved the Spanish language and the culture.

I also look forward to being back with my friends and my favorite professors. I have made so many incredible connections throughout my time at UM-Flint that I know I will cherish for the rest of my life. I have met so many kind people, and I am glad that my path happened to cross with theirs. I often think about how I probably would not have made the friends I have or even know they exist if I had not chosen to come to UM-Flint.
When I am not in class, I am usually out and about on campus, attending events and interviewing members of the campus community for social media. One of my favorite projects I have worked on during my time outside of the classroom was getting testimonials from students, faculty, and alumni about Giving Blueday, the University’s annual day of giving. Getting to know others who go to the same university or have different experiences from me is one of my favorite aspects of communication.
This semester is one that I am particularly excited about: It is my last one at UM-Flint! It feels like I just started my first semester in college, so it is hard to believe that I have been attending college for four years. I am going to miss this place when I graduate in December, but I am so excited about what the next chapter has in store for me post-graduation.
