Thirteen Shades of Green By Mitzi Jackson<\/p>\n
I was sitting on stratus clouds watching Gods as they walked by<\/p>\n
When I saw him standing like Solomon did<\/p>\n
Hanging child under his wrist<\/p>\n
Bold black, confident black ain\u2019t we lucky we got em\u2019 black<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t know if it was the stars in my eyes or the white<\/p>\n
Of his teeth shine\u2026\u2026I fell and his eyes caught me<\/p>\n
We lay on blades of grass where I became sprinkled sand<\/p>\n
Over wet lands\u2026 he split me open like watermelon on a summer\u2019s day<\/p>\n
And yes I was happy<\/p>\n
Strong black, proud black, 1970s Mac black<\/p>\n
Too many phones, too many nights, too many times in flight<\/p>\n
Baller, stunting, shot caller, my ears rings<\/p>\n
Why can\u2019t you fake that smile you do for them with me<\/em><\/p>\n Gorilla, My love, my love, my winding sheet<\/em>?<\/p>\n My belly becoming full like the moon<\/p>\n I whisper to you when you sleep \u201cwhat\u2014are\u2014we\u2014going\u2014to– do?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Surrounded by red and blue sun sounds\u2026.got me feeling rather down now I\u2019m<\/p>\n Sitting inside of thirteen shades of green<\/p>\n Holding myself I sing\u2026.Hush little baby, don\u2019t say a word<\/em><\/p>\n Yo ass should have left me in those clouds, Knowing<\/em> you wouldn\u2019t be around <\/p>\n as beautiful of a sound our love made<\/p>\n I am left poisoned with Envy<\/p>\n\n\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We want to congratulate Mitzi Jackson, who wrote the winning poem for our 5th Annual Love Stinks Writing Contest!
