{"id":573,"date":"2016-04-21T14:26:18","date_gmt":"2016-04-21T14:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.umflint.edu\/writingcenter\/?p=573"},"modified":"2016-04-21T14:26:18","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T14:26:18","slug":"wind-and-starlight-by-sydney-markel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.umflint.edu\/writingcenter\/2016\/04\/21\/wind-and-starlight-by-sydney-markel\/","title":{"rendered":"Wind and Starlight by Sydney Markel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This poem was the 1st Place Winner in our 3rd Annual Poetry Contest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We were opposites, she and I,<\/p>\n<p>She of the earth and I of the sky.<\/p>\n<p>She ruled day while I ruled night,<\/p>\n<p>She worshiped the ground as I took flight.<\/p>\n<p>But even so we longed to meet<\/p>\n<p>To have our faces lay cheek to cheek,<\/p>\n<p>But we danced to different tunes,<\/p>\n<p>She the sun and I the moon.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, she lit up my dark, I calmed down her day.<\/p>\n<p>Was that the way things had to stay?<\/p>\n<p>Consumed by darkness and forever apart,<\/p>\n<p>I almost destroyed what was left of my heart.<\/p>\n<p>But she of the earth was stronger than I,<\/p>\n<p>She danced to the sun, a fire in her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Moving the sun with her tale of romance,<\/p>\n<p>The sun shared of its light to give us a chance<\/p>\n<p>So, one by one, they came to appear<\/p>\n<p>Little Suns in the night, so magic and dear.<\/p>\n<p>A sign of true love, or so the tale goes,<\/p>\n<p>That she shared of her sun to lighten my woes;<\/p>\n<p>I laughed in joy at their beautiful glow,<\/p>\n<p>And so the wind sang to her down below.<\/p>\n<p>We dance to the tune, of wind and starlight;<\/p>\n<p>Now bound together, our love shines bright.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This poem was the 1st Place Winner in our 3rd Annual Poetry Contest. &nbsp; We were opposites, she and I, She of the earth and I of the sky.
