Toko Oshio, Ph.D. Assistant Professor
Toko Oshio, Ph.D. joined the UM-Flint Education Department in July 2015 and teaches Early Childhood Education courses, focusing on child development. She was recently recognized by UM-Flint’s College Panhellenic Association as an outstanding professor and mentor for students.
What inspired you to enter the field of education:
Children. After a couple of experiences working with them, I fell in love with how they feel, think, and behave – and it led me to study child development in depth.
Why should students consider a career in education:
I strongly believe that not all can be a teacher. However, if you have certain dispositions and passion, education is one of the best fields to make a difference in society!
What do you hope for your current students:
I hope they, in the near future, can be one of those teachers who make a difference and become a role model.
