The Education Department is introducing a new 21 credit minor for this upcoming Fall 2014 semester for any individuals interested in a basic introduction to early childhood, child development, and young children. This program is designed for students in any major program who have an interest in early childhood or in working with young children and their families. This minor is specifically being offered to any students who are pursing majors apart from Elementary Education or those seeking the Early Childhood Specialist Endorsement.

So why should an Early Childhood Studies minor matter to non education students? Early childhood is relevant to many professions and areas of life. If you are planning on working in family law, social work, criminal justice, nursing, medical studies, music, or if you are or may become a parent, this minor provides you with what you need to know to interact with young children. The minor will provide you with the knowledge, experience, and understanding of young children, their families, and communities that you will need to serve in any of these professional or personal capacities.

Classes included “Play and Learning in Early Childhood,” “Music in Early Childhood,” “Working with Families, Children and Community,” “Creative Learning,” and more!
