UM-Flint students Christopher F. Cassidy and Daniela Goetz are gearing up to co-teach a series of Center for Educator Preparation math workshops for education students who plan to take the Professional Readiness Exam. In Michigan, a passing score on the PRE allows students admission into their respective education programs.

Christopher F. Cassidy, of Grand Blanc, is a math TCP major and speech TCP minor. He wants to be a secondary education math teacher and also hopes to earn his master’s degree and become a special needs educator. He has had a lot of success in high school and college-level math, specializing in algebra and geometry.

Christopher looks forward to providing a positive learning environment for students taking the workshops to brush up on their fundamental math skills. “Students can expect to be in a helpful environment that propels them to better themselves through mathematics and that aids them with passing the PRE,” he said.

Daniela Goetz, of Goodrich, has a double major in math and integrated science for secondary education. She is president of the Student Union for Mathematics at UM-Flint, and she wants to teach high school math and middle school science after graduation. Daniela has experience with all levels of math including areas beyond the levels in the PRE.

“The workshops are a good refresher for me,” she said. “You want to understand the building blocks well so you can reconstruct the process of solving specific types of problems. Teaching together, both of us will be able to meet different learning styles.”

Math workshops will be 9:30-11:30am at MSB Rm.421 on these dates: Feb 19, March 11, 12, 25 & 26, and April 8, 9, 15 & 16.
