For its upcoming Second Annual Evening of Excellence, the UM-Flint Social Work Department is pleased to showcase a variety of academic work and research projects completed by social work students graduating in May.

Open to the greater Flint community, the event will be Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the University Center’s Michigan Rooms. Students will be prepared to discuss their projects with members of the public and campus community.

Topics this year include LGBT youth homelessness, the Flint water crisis, bullying in schools and facial disfigurement, teaching cultural humility,  student-led food pantry, Students for Recovery student group, starting a mentoring program, human trafficking, and more.

Social work professor Jessica Camp said she is proud of all that the students have accomplished this year.

“This year I was especially proud of the social justice impact of the projects, both those that focused on the department and the university, as well as those that were run in the community,” Prof. Camp said. “Their work is going to live on well beyond their graduation and speaks to the incredible social workers that they are going to be.”

For those wishing to attend this event, please RSVP by email to Jean Harkins in the Social Work Department at [email protected].
