The Center for Educator Preparation opened its doors near the end of last year to serve education students, and its staff haven’t looked back since. The center is working to not only improve the experience education students have at UM-Flint, but also better prepare them for the world of teaching. One of the workshops the CEP is offering to students is the Special Education Boot Camp held at various times throughout the semester. The workshop helps a small group of attendees to better understand the role of general education teachers, special education in schools, and answers any questions teacher candidates may have about special education.
The workshop is intimate. It’s not in a large lecture hall where teacher candidates are merely lectured at on the role special education plans in schools, but in the center’s (French Hall 410) meeting area in the back. It’s a relaxed environment open to questions, discussion, and collaboration.
The center offers a variety of different workshops from one on working with parents to building a resume for the teaching career field. All of the center’s workshops and events are listed on their website.
