About Me
Jeffrey P. Drake
As an instructional designer and educator with more than 10 years of experience and advanced degrees in Educational Technology and Curriculum & Instruction, I understand not only the platforms but also the pedagogy behind online learning. I have worked in adult learning six years developing and teaching online, blended, and traditional courses; facilitating instructional design; creating eLearning for universities and Fortune 500 companies, and coaching others on technology integration. I have a knack for breaking down complex problems into essential building blocks, and I have a track record of moving projects from conception to completion under tight deadlines.
I’ve been fortunate to work with many high-performing teams and was especially pleased to:
– Help create foundational curricula for web-based employee on-boarding at a financial services firm
– Develop curricula for online courses, utilizing backward design principles and aligning proper assessments
– Produce and deliver workshops to help other educators tap into new technologies and maximize use of the LMS (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle, Desire2Learn)
– Write and implement a $150,000 technology grant that helped bring one school system into the 21st century
From instructor and designer to researcher and former student of online courses, every vantage point informs my work. The common thread throughout my journey is the intertwining of technology and education. I have fun with my work, and I enjoy helping others explore new technologies. When I’m not online? You’ll probably find me biking, hiking, or kayaking the Cuyahoga.
Beyond the tangibles, it has been a special honor to be recognized as a company “Innovator” and to be selected as a “Teacher Who Made a Difference” since the nominations came from colleagues and students. Throughout my career whether working as an ID, educator or trainer, I have demonstrated creativity in solving problems, curiosity about new technologies, and a passion for lifelong learning and education. Strong listening skills and a good sense of humor allow me to build solid relationships with subject matter experts, managers, and co-workers to collaborate on finding inspired learning solutions. You could say I’m a sponge for new ideas.
