Graduate Programs

Blogs from students, faculty & staff

It has now been four weeks since the University of Michigan-Flint made the decision to transition all of our courses to remote coursework. While this sudden change proposed challenges and opportunities for faculty and students alike, we asked some of our Graduate Student Ambassadors how they are handling their newfound remote learning environment.

This change is affecting me because in DPT school nearly every class, if not every single class, has a lab component. It is a very hands on profession. Our professors have been working with us to supply lab content online via video conference, but it is not the same by any means. The online portion of lecture time I completely enjoy, personally. I like that I can read the material in my own time to absorb and read further into the topics, although I do miss hearing my professors personal stories of their clinical experiences.

Our professors are incredibly understanding with all of this change, they are doing everything they can to help us through this. Most do video conferencing if we ever need help, others have live class time with video conferencing. For the DPT program, we are on a strict schedule. We don’t really have the option to choose to wait to take our classes a different semester unless we wait an entire year, so yes, I guess, I will be taking my courses online for this spring/summer semester. We are still waiting to hear from our director about how this change will affect us. Stay healthy everyone! It may be difficult, but we will make it through!
