Congratulations to Amy Hartwig for being honored with a Maize and Blue Award, the highest honor given to graduating seniors at UM-Flint.
Amy’s intelligence, openness to learning and new ideas, and unwavering dedication to her education, job, and community, make her a model student. Amy has a keen passion for intellectual engagement that has translated into a rigorous academic program while she has also put herself through college and pursued meaningful extra-curricular activities. Amy has completed her B.A. while working full-time as an assistant editor and designer at a local publishing company, an accomplishment that she has commendably achieved with elegance and maturity.
Despite—or perhaps because of—the need to take most courses online due to her rigorous work schedule and unpredictable publishing deadlines, Amy has worked purposefully and successfully to forge meaningful connections with faculty and students in her courses. She served as president of Sigma Tau Delta (the International English Honors Society) in 2011-12. And, for almost a decade Amy volunteered for Flint Local 432, a non-profit music venue in downtown Flint that focuses on providing a substance-free, inclusive all-ages environment.
Dedicated to the value of the intellectual endeavor and committed to building community through volunteerism and concern for others, Amy is a very deserving recipient of the Maize and Blue honor, and the faculty of the English Department congratulate her on all of her remarkable achievements.
