We went to Dr. Theresa Atkinsons’ lab to learn how biomechanics research leads to development of a safer world. One example that we were able to see was the design on a new child car seat. We also met Dr. Angela Collins who was completing a fellowship at Hurley in Orthopedic Surgery. She shared with us what it is like to be a woman in a very male dominated field, what med school is like, and different things she needs to know how to do to be a successful surgeon. They also led the girls through 4 activities where they were able to use the power tools that are used to do this work.
