Chem Club students joined us and we learned about chemical bonds, properties of matter, and chemical reactions. We learned about polarity and solubility and used those concepts to decorate paper with marbling (some chose other patterns for their art). We saw liquid-liquid solubility (AKA miscibility) in action when we changed the density and viscosity of water to make a better “snow tube”. We performed a chemical reaction to coat a penny in zinc causing a physical change to a silver appearance and then heated it to simply mix the metals without a chemical reaction to change the appearance to gold. And we used a multiple step reaction to make a solution that would allow silver to bind to glass to make decorative silver bulbs and containers.
