Bacterial Genetics

Dr. Jessica Kelts described her life as a biochemist in industry and academia. She spoke about her research, which has included work with proteins that cause things to glow and ways to make cancer drugs more effective so that patients take lower amounts to avoid side effects. We then had the opportunity to start our own biochemistry experiment. We added DNA to bacteria and are let them grow. We also worked with different types of controls again for our experiment. Forcing the bacteria to take up this DNA makes them glow as they grow!
