Catapult Building

University of Michigan-Flint
Participants were given limited materials: only pencils, rubber bands, a lid to a 20oz bottle, and cocoa puffs. We started class by discussing the parts of a catapult along with their function. The majority of the time was spend with the girls working in groups to construct their own catapults using their own design. Then, the girls tested the efficiency of the catapults by seeing how far they would launch a cocoa puff. They were completely enthralled with the construction and making the catapults better after the first trial!
