Quality Assurance & Quality Control

We reviewed what it means to do science (including teamwork, creative problem solving, and critical thinking) and the many definitions of scientist. We then had a product-making challenge that pushed the girls to think about how to be more effective when they made their “Color Bricks” in assembly line fashion. Re-working the assembly lines after a first round of “production” showed the girls the importance of quality control, a non-research and development field in which many scientists are employed, as well as adjusting of variables during the testing phase of experimentation. The winning team was able to choose a special treat for the following week.
