Making & Testing Lotions

They used chemistry to make their own moisturizing lotion product during this multi-week activity. Once the product was made, the girls tested to see how well it kept in moisture compared to commercial lotions. They also added scents so it could smell good, too. The girls were also tested to see how well they knew the scientific method. But, it was a fun test!
The girls tested whether or not the lotion that they made held in moisture. They compared how much moisture was lost without any lotion, with their lotion, and with store bought lotion. They found that the lotions did keep the moisture in compared to no lotion (no lotion lost twice as much % mass) and that their lotion kept in amounts comparable to the store bought brands (13% compared to 10-12% moisture loss).
