Emma Davis is a Dance Instructor at UM-Flint and one of the choreographers whose\u00a0work will be presented at the upcoming Spring Dance Concert inspired by “The Written Word.” One piece, “We Are<\/a>,” is inspired by poetry\u00a0written by detained youth in Genesee County. Another, which includes both ballet and hip hop elements, is inspired by the short story “The Lottery<\/a>.” Performances\u00a0will be held at the UM-Flint Theatre on April 17, 18, and 19. \"Emma<\/a>How I fell in love with my field:
\n<\/strong>I have been dancing since I was young, eventually including techniques in ballet, modern, tap, jazz, and hip hop. It wasn\u2019t until my undergraduate experience that really confirmed: \u201cthis is what I am supposed to be doing.\u201d I was always planning rehearsals, performing, taking class, connecting others to dance. I\u2019m not sure if there is a specific moment where I fell in love with dance \u2013 the love was always there. This was just the time I made the decision to professionally pursue a career in dance.<\/p>\n

What I hope for my time at UM-Flint:
\n<\/strong>I hope to guide and work with our community\u2019s upcoming dance professionals to support and strengthen UM-Flint\u2019s program and the Flint and Michigan dance community as a whole.<\/p>\n

What I hope for students in my field:
\n<\/strong>To find their pathway in this challenging, yet greatly rewarding field.<\/p>\n

Three things you should know about me:
