About the Update

There was no social media update for the month of March. We were doing some thinking. Over the past year or more, you’ve seen UM-Flint Social Media Updates adjust to the amount and type of analytical data available to us. We now find ourselves in a place where there is enough data to perform some sort of analysis. We’d like to offer more than just numbers, but evaluation that leads to strategy.

So far, we’ve presented a lot of Facebook numbers. Numbers about wall posts and comments and likes and views. When it comes to Twitter or YouTube, though, we’ve presented very little. And what about Foursquare and others? The reality is that Facebook offers an incredible amount of statistical information about user activity, more so than the others. We’re currently researching ways to track the reach of our non-Facebook social media efforts. In the meantime, you’ll notice fewer numbers and–hopefully–more answers to “so what?”
