Cans Across America 2008 PSA

November 2nd, 2008 by drowden

Imagine a food drive that raises four hundred thousand pounds of food in a single day.  Now imagine all the good that much food could do for those living in poverty in the United States.  University Dining Services invites you to help make this happen with the Cans Across America event on Wednesday, November 12th, as Sodexo campuses all across the country aim to break a world record for the largest 24 hour food drive in multiple locations by a non-charitable organization!

Not only will you be helping feed those in need and have the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a difference in someone’s life, but you will also have the unique opportunity to participate in a world record attempt.

Beginning at 7:00am on November 12th, collection bins will be located throughout the campus.  Please be a part of this charitable event by donating non-perishable food items within their expiration dates such as canned soup, canned vegetables, canned fruits, and dried pastas.

Be a part of something as big as a world record, and as personal as feeding those who have nothing.  With Sodexo USA’s Cans Across America, you can make a world of difference, so please donate a non-perishable food item on November 12th between 7:00am and 9:00pm at the designated locations.

For more details on Cans Across America, contact Jelena Jovic or Jack Cahill at (810-424-5280).

Help Stop Hunger on November 12th by being a part of Cans Across America!

Volunteer at Target National Night Out!

July 28th, 2008 by drowden

TARGET brings their 25th Annual National Night Out event to the University of Michigan-Flint campus on Tuesday, August 5th from 4:00-9:00pm, rain or shine.  Target actively supports law enforcement and criminal justice agencies to build stronger, safer and more vibrant communities across the country through programs such as National Night Out, Safe City, and the Law Enforcement Grant Program.

To make this event happen a number of volunteers from TARGET will be present, many of whom are UM-Flint students.  So we are asking the University Community to also volunteer and assist us in making this an event we can be proud of.  Please email Melissa Stephens-Farrell, Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations, at msfarrel@umflint.edu.

Staff Council requests that UM-Flint staff support this worthwhile event.  Click here for a flyer.

Staff can enter their volunteer hours at www.umflint.edu/staffcouncil/volunteer.htm.

Volunteer Opportunity @ MFUSE

March 24th, 2008 by drowden

Staff members are highly encouraged to consider this volunteer opportunity:

The University of Michigan-Flint will hold the first MFUSE Concert featuring the hip hop artist Common.  MFUSE is a celebration for students to mark the end of the academic year.  The concert will take place on Wednesday, April 16 in Lot A, next to the Recreation Center.  Festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. with Common taking the stage around 6:00 p.m.  The community is invited to attend. We are looking for 100 volunteers to help!  This is a great way to earn service points, and to welcome the community to our campus.  Duties for volunteers will include:

·         Set up
·         Clean up
·         Crowd monitoring
·         Information center
·         VIP Section
·         Vendor Section
·         Front Stage Area

Even if you can volunteer for just a couple of hours, it will help.  If you’re interested, please sign up online at http://www.umflint.edu/mfuse/volunteer_signup.htm.   All volunteers will receive free food at the concert and a free long-sleeve t-shirt identifying them as a volunteer and commemorating the event.

If you have questions, please contact the Office of University Relations 810.767.6465.
