Volunteers Needed for Welcome Back Picnic

Greetings Colleagues,

The Welcome Back Picnic Planning Committee hopes that you might be available to volunteer your time and services for the Welcome Back Picnic on Thursday, September 13, 2012.   The Welcome Back Picnic is one of the most anticipated events for our students and it cannot be successful without your help!  We currently are asking for help with the following items:

  •  Set Up/Clean Up –  Volunteers are needed to help set up and clean up Kearsley Street and Willson Park for the event.  Set up begins roughly at 7:30 A.M. and clean up will transpire around 7:30 P.M.
  • Food Servers – Volunteers are desperately needed to help serve food to students.  We are seeking assistance between the hours of 1 – 3 P.M. and 5 – 7 P.M.  Food will be served on the lawn of the First Street Residence Hall.
  • Cake Donators – Each participant in the Annual Cake Race receives a free-baked item donated by UM-Flint faculty and staff.  We typically have around 100 racers/walkers for the event.  Presently, we have 40 promised baked goods.  *We ask that you please consider buying or baking a cake and help us keep the tradition alive!

*If you are planning to donate a baked good for the event, the drop off location will be at the corner of Kearsley Street and Wallenberg Street.

Your help will be greatly appreciated, and is crucial to the success of this important campus event.  If you are interested in volunteering, please complete and submit the Welcome Back Picnic Volunteer Form at your earliest convenience. Keep in mind that all volunteers will receive an All-Access Wristband for participating.  The All-Access Wristband gets you a 2012-2013 Welcome t-shirt, free food, and access to each event attraction.  Event participants must have the All-Access Wristband in order to fully participate in the events and activities of the day.

Contest Terms and Conditions:

  1. Correct answers will be posted/published online, via-email, and on the Staff Council Blog.
  2. Individuals must be members of Staff Assembly to be eligible to win prizes. Eligibility will be verified by HR. Current members of Staff Council are ineligible to win prizes.
  3. Previous winners (although welcome to participate in the contest at any time) are not eligible to win again for six months.
  4. Two prizes will be awarded per trivia question. Winners will be drawn each month from all correct answers and eligible participants.
  5. The availability of a new question will be announced monthly (as prizes are available) via-email.
  6. Responses should be submitted online via the Trivia Contest Answer Form.
  7. Terms and conditions are subject to change.

Staff Recognition Award Breakfast 2009

Sterling Staff Awards – July 2008

Staff Council is pleased to announce that eight (8) staff members were nominated during the month of July.  Each recipient received their printable certificate of achievement.

Please join us in congratulating Sandy Alberto, Kathy Cornman, Jon Davidson, Dominic Fusero, Lynn Kruse, Stacy Lee, Kristen Matthias, and Louanne Snyder.  Also,  Stacy Lee was randomly selected as Recipient of the Month and received a Sterling Staff Awards mug and special recognition on the Spotlight on Staff page.

First Year Student Book Project

Dear Colleagues:

 

Once again we are asking for your support and participation in the First Year Student Book Project.  The project is a gesture of welcome from faculty and staff members to incoming students at their convocation.

 

As in the past, we are asking for staff members to donate up to three books of interest to students, and write a message of welcome in them for the students.  These messages may say something about the book, or extend an invitation to stop by and meet.  The book(s) you choose to donate conveys a message about yourself, and about a welcome to our community of scholars.  In the three years this gesture has been extended, students and parents have truly appreciated the personal touch that the gift conveys.

 

This year we are expecting our largest freshman class ever, and the date of the Freshman Convocation is Tuesday, August 26.  If you can participate, please send your book(s) to the Department of Psychology, 411 MSB by Sunday, August 24.  If you have questions, please contact any Staff Council representative.
