Your intrepid webmaster has been a little off lately. For those of you who rely on the occasional trivia question to break from your trying work day, please forgive me for neglecting my duties. To make up for it, hopefully this one will keep you guessing for a while. :-)

Q: UM-Flint holds the distinct honor of hosting the very first Meeting of Minds Undergraduate Research Conference. In what year was that?

  2. Individuals must be members of Staff Assembly to be eligible to win prizes. Eligibility will be verified by HR. Current members of Staff Council are ineligible to win prizes.

  4. Two prizes will be awarded per trivia question. Winners will be drawn each month from all correct answers and eligible participants.

Information Session: Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment Policies

November/December Trivia Contest

Wow! I believe this is the first time since I’ve been on Council (over a year and a half now), that we have failed to produced a single trivia contest winner in consecutive months. Well staff, here’s your chance to break this winless streak once and for all. This question should be simple. Please indicate where this Wall of UM-Flint Chancellors is located:

Because of the special circumstances behind this particular trivia contest (We want a winner…and we want one now!), this contest won’t go until the end of the month. Instead, we ask that you please submit your responses by Wednesday, Dec. 19th. Winners will be selected just in time for the holidays.

Annual Holiday Breakfast

Staff, you are cordially invited to our annual Holiday Breakfast on Thursday, Dec. 6th 2012! The breakfast will take place from 9 am – 11 am in the Michigan Rooms (1st floor of UCEN).

We ask that you take an opportunity to contribute to our “Head to Toe Tree” by bringing hats, gloves, underwear, socks, and any other items; which will be donated to the needy. Also, we ask that you consider making a donation to the 10th Annual “Adopt-a-Student Family” endeavor. Cash is preferred, please.

Finally, you’re in for a real treat with this year’s holiday give-a-way!

Volunteers Needed for Welcome Back Picnic

Greetings Colleagues,

The Welcome Back Picnic Planning Committee hopes that you might be available to volunteer your time and services for the Welcome Back Picnic on Thursday, September 13, 2012.   The Welcome Back Picnic is one of the most anticipated events for our students and it cannot be successful without your help!  We currently are asking for help with the following items:

  •  Set Up/Clean Up –  Volunteers are needed to help set up and clean up Kearsley Street and Willson Park for the event.  Set up begins roughly at 7:30 A.M. and clean up will transpire around 7:30 P.M.
  • Food Servers – Volunteers are desperately needed to help serve food to students.  We are seeking assistance between the hours of 1 – 3 P.M. and 5 – 7 P.M.  Food will be served on the lawn of the First Street Residence Hall.
  • Cake Donators – Each participant in the Annual Cake Race receives a free-baked item donated by UM-Flint faculty and staff.  We typically have around 100 racers/walkers for the event.  Presently, we have 40 promised baked goods.  *We ask that you please consider buying or baking a cake and help us keep the tradition alive!

*If you are planning to donate a baked good for the event, the drop off location will be at the corner of Kearsley Street and Wallenberg Street.

Your help will be greatly appreciated, and is crucial to the success of this important campus event.  If you are interested in volunteering, please complete and submit the Welcome Back Picnic Volunteer Form at your earliest convenience. Keep in mind that all volunteers will receive an All-Access Wristband for participating.  The All-Access Wristband gets you a 2012-2013 Welcome t-shirt, free food, and access to each event attraction.  Event participants must have the All-Access Wristband in order to fully participate in the events and activities of the day.

A: This was a trick question. The first broadcast of WFUM-TV was August 23, 1980. Meanwhile, the first broadcast of WFUM-FM was the same day and month, but in a different year. August 23, 1985.
