Posted by drowden in : Uncategorized , add a commentThe Flint Journal interviewed the ITS Director, Scott Arnst, and Gabriel Ebbert, one of our HelpDesk Consultants, about the Computer Security 101 Awareness Campaign which has been running for several weeks. This week, all current students can take the exam in Blackboard (http://bb.umflint.edu/). The exam ends at midnight on Sunday, February 17th and the prize drawing will be held at Student Life on Friday, March 7th.

The Security 101 Exam has started! February 11, 2008

The exam started on Monday, February 11th, at 8:00 A.M. in Blackboard and will end at midnight on Sunday, February 17th.

Upcoming Lab Closings February 5, 2008
Posted by rweidner in : General News, Lab News, News for Students , add a commentAll ITS computer labs, except 206 MSB, will be closed the week of Spring Break (February 25th – 29th). 206 MSB will be open February 25th-29th (Monday-Friday) from 9:00am-9:00 pm each day.
All ITS computer labs, including 206 MSB, will be closed March 1st & 2nd (Saturday & Sunday).
All ITS computer labs will resume their normal schedules on Monday, March 3rd.
Retirement of Dial-up Services February 4, 2008

However, UM-Flint purchased a modem pool service through another provider for one year. Beginning June 1, 2007, new local dialup numbers were provided, and you were able to connect using your uniqname@umflint.edu and UM-Flint (LAN) password.
This change is being made as a result of significantly decreased modem pool usage and in accord with the trend of dial-in providers across the nation to reduce their services. It will result in important savings to the University by eliminating a service that is being used by relatively few people.
Everyone who uses the free dialup service through UM-Flint will be affected. Those individuals will need to find an alternative Internet Service Provider to connect to the Internet after June 1, 2008. We have created a list of various dialup providers which can be found here: http://www.umflint.edu/its/helpdesk/support_centers/dialup_service_providers.htm.
