Harvesting Earth urban farm to plant orchard

Harvesting Earth Educational Farm, a Discovering Place partner, is planting an orchard in the Beecher district.

Farm representatives said 200 apple and peach trees are being planted to improve community nutrition and the local environment.

Volunteers are needed to help plant the trees, beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 20 at 5430 Detroit Street.

Donations of essentials such as mulch, compost, refreshments, and drip irrigation supplies are also needed.

Individuals, groups and businesses are encouraged to celebrate a birth, birthday, marriage, graduation or other memorable milestones by adopting a tree.
