Thank you so very much for sharing your father's heroic story at our community's Yom Ha'Shoah service. It was deeply moving and will leave a lasting impression on me and, I'm sure, all who attended the event. We must never forget.

I was in attendance at the MFUSE concert featuring Common recently. I am by no means a fan of Hip Hop, but I enjoyed the festivites . Next include the vendors and information tabls into the mix (near the people.
And utilize Z-92.7 with paid ads, our people were there.

Kevin, thank you for your comments. I do not routinely email people who leave comments to let them know I have responded, instead relying upon people to check back. I do try to respond as appropriate. As to trouble with the blog allowing you to post I will look into it. Because of a major increase in spam I am now moderating comments so they may wait in the que for a day or two. I do not stop posts simply because the view of the poster disagrees with me.

I will not get into a defense of the SPLC for their decision on categorizing the MSU YAF chapter as a general hate group. Those wishing to read the reasons given by the SPLC should read <a href="http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?aid=869" rel="nofollow">an article written by the SPLC</a> . Those seeking to understand the opposition should search for articles published in <a href="http://www.frontpagemag.com" rel="nofollow">FrontPageMag.com</a> ; as well as the MSU YAF web site.

Finally, SPLC does identify various Black Separatist organizations as hate groups.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I didn't get any notification that you had commented back. I've also had some trouble with this blog allowing me to post.

One of my problems with the SPLC is their labeling of Young Americans for Freedom (MSU Chapter) as a "general hate group." This is in lieu of a single incident, but they do not endorse, nor have any doctrine, of hate. However, they are a right-leaning, conservative group, & the SPLC has a tendency to label these groups as hate.

Another is the ideology that the SPLC portrays; the notion that only white people are capable of hate. There's a seemingly infinite number of articles relating to neo-Nazi's, the KKK, and various other white supremacist/anti-immigration groups...yet not a single in the other direction. They follow every tedious move and word of Chris Simcox; yet Kamau Kambon, who openly called for the extermination of white people on C-SPAN, brings a search result of 0 articles.

"We have to exterminate white people off the face of the planet in order to solve this problem."
-Kamau Kambon (C-SPAN, 10/14/2005)

This was declared on a federally-mandated national channel. The SPLC, who's supposed main objective is to fight hate, completely ignores.

I begin this comment and reply with a disclaimer. The views expressed in my blog entries are mine and are not presented as the official position of the University of Michigan-Flint. The views expressed in comments on this blog are also not official or endorsed positions by the University of Michigan-Flint. As my Blog entry implies, I personally find the Southern Poverty Law Center to be a good organization committed to social justice and dedicated to working for tolerance and equality. Kevin, the question I have for you is what specific examples lead you to make your claim?

My name is Steve Buffone, I'm a lawyer who works in New York City and lives in Connecticut and I'm the proud nephew of John Davidek. I've spoken with John personally about this initiative and expressed my strong support and enthusiasm for the project, which I think it an incredibly important one. I would love to see it spread beyond Flint to a national scale and will do what I can to help do so. Meantime, best wishes to John and all the students at SWA who are behind this wonderful project!
